The Cancer Walk is held in October in memory of Edie Hall. Join the team, staff, and everyone else interested in raising funds for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. We will be walking for 2 hours in the Multi-Sport Facility on the Penn State University Park Campus. Each player has a sponsor from the club responsible for raising money in the name of that player. The money raised is donated to Coaches-vs-Cancer through the American Cancer Society.
2007-08 Cancer Walk
The ninth annual Lady Lion Cager Club Cancer Walk in honor of Edie Hall was held on Sunday, October 7, 2007, at the Indoor Multi-Sports Complex. This year’s walk exceeded last year’s record attendance with 116 people. It included a number of students from the university such as the Coaches vs Cancer Club, the Penn State cheerleaders, the NITTANY LION (who had time to shake everyone’s hand or give a high-five), and the LLBB coaches, team and some members of the LLBB staff.
The walk started with the team, coaches, survivors, and caregivers walking around the track. What a greeting the rest of the walkers and cheerleaders gave as the first walk came to an end. For the rest of the two hours everyone walked as long as they could, taking rests and getting a massage from Andra Thomas. We had two groups from State College High School walking as part of a community service project. Mary Dickson and her daughter Tori and a friend from Costa Rico traveled from their home in New Jersey to walk with us. Last year, and again this year, Tori collected money from family and friends. It was so nice to have them attend this year. During the walk prizes, including LLCC t-shits and bobblehead dolls, were given to people who were walking on the track. Following the walk the group ate a wonderful potluck dinner coordinated by the Cager Club while they socialized with the Lady Lions.
Thank you to this year’s Captains which included Andy & Diane Moore, Bitsey Robertson, Scott Anderson and friends, Sig Byers, Annie Davis, Marjorie Rohrbeck, Kerri Saylor, Loren Crispell, Carla Jeremiaz, Casey Fisher, Bill & Sandy Rockey, Barry & Debbie Bargo, and the LLBB Managers.
The Social Committee of the LLCC was in charge of the potluck. Those helping were Sue and Dick Pletcher, Mary Yostpille, Cheryl Anderson, Amy Paster, Hubie Wian, Diane Moore, and Bill and Sandy Rockey. A special “thank you” to the committee, the staff of the Multi-Sports Complex, Jenn James, Rachel Rito, LLBB team, Coaches, Staff, and trainer Andra Thomas. It is our hope that the walk can be continued each October and that more adult walkers will take part in such a worthy cause. We have all been touched by cancer in some way.
See you all next year. Marjorie
